Bethel Horizons, a camp and retreat center nestled in Wisconsin's scenic driftless area, contracted with GASS to develop a sustainable and diverse trail network on their 548 acre property. The goal was to provide an enriching outdoor experience for visitors of all skill levels and interests. The project involved the design and construction of a trail system that maximized the property's potential, with a particular emphasis on introducing beginners to the world of mountain biking.
The trail development team implemented a comprehensive master plan, carefully designing trails that catered to a wide range of user groups. The focus was on creating beginner-friendly mountain bike trails, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for newcomers to the sport.
In addition to design and construction of new trails, GASS also addressed problematic areas on existing trails. By taking measures to protect the ecosystem and using environmentally friendly construction methods, GASS was able to reduce the negative consequences the problematic areas had on the surrounding environment. This approach not only minimized disruption to natural habitats but also ensured the long-term sustainability of the trail system.
The project is currently in progress, with 5 miles of trails constructed. These trails are designed for mountain biking, multiple uses, and hiking, catering to different recreational activities. As the development of the trails continues, Bethel Horizons has the goal of cultivating a strong bond with nature, creating a welcoming space for individuals and groups to discover and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
